Recall that Obaseki was disqualified before the APC gubernatorial primaries on account of alleged forged certificates presented to the party.

Obaseki thereafter decamped to the PDP and secured its party’s ticket while the APC went ahead to file a case against Obaseki and the PDP for fielding a candidate with forged certificates.

This is the first contentious matter to be decided by the courts on the certificate scandal hovering over the State Governor.

Car owners to pay N250,000 to convert cars to autogas – FG

December 02, 2020

Car owners in the country will have to pay N250,000 to convert their cars to autogas.

Justice Derefaka, Technical Adviser on Gas Business and Policy Implementation to Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva who appeared on a Channels Television programme on Wednesday December 2 after the Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari on Tuesday December 1 said that one million cars are to be powered by Autogas free of charge, averred that vehicle owners will have different payment plans to covert their cars to autogas.

He said;

“The cost varies. So in terms of cost implication, it depends on the cylinder of the vehicle and of course, for a typical SUV cylinder, it is a bit higher but on the average, it is around N200,000 to N250,000 and this is for a four-cylinder vehicle but it becomes a little bit higher for a six-cylinder SUV vehicle.”

Also commenting on the different payment plans for car owners who want to convert their cars, Derefaka stated that the conversion is not totally free.

He added;

“The owner of the car basically will decide to say I want to run on autogas or CNG or LNG and like the honourable minister had mentioned it as well, conversion basically, has different strands, you can partner with your bank and then the bank will now agree with the conversion centre to say ‘Convert this our customer’s car for free.’ Not free in its entirety.

“But then you now go and covert your vehicle. What happens is that the installer will put some form of mechanism that each time you buy the gas; a certain amount will be deducted to pay for the conversion kits.”

Dimissing fears of many Nigerians seeing the conversion fee as expensive, the aide noted that payment can be done within five to seven months.

Derefaka said;

“And that in its self has saved you the use of gas in lieu of petrol to about 45-50 per cent,” the Marine Engineering graduate from the Rivers State University (RSU), Port Harcourt added. “So, there is a huge cost-saving in that regard.”

CBN Introduces Special Bills to Deepen Financial Market

December 02, 2020

The CBN stated this in a circular addressed to all banks, dated December 1, 2020, signed by its Director, Banking Supervision, Mr. Bello Hassan, a copy of which was obtained by THISDAY yesterday.

It explained that the features of the special bills include tenor of 90 days, zero coupon, applicable yield at issuance to be determined by the CBN; the instrument will be tradable amongst banks, retail and institutional investors.

Also, it stated that the instrument shall not be accepted for repurchase agreement transactions with the CBN and shall not be discountable at the CBN window; and that the instrument will qualify as liquid assets in the computation of liquidity ratio for deposit money banks.

“The CBN will continue to ensure optimal regulation of systemic liquidity and promote efficient financial markets in support of economic recovery and sustained growth,” it added.

Dealers, Analysts Welcome New Policy on Diaspora Remittances

Meanwhile, the Association of Bureau De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON) and some financial market analysts have expressed support for the new Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) policy that grants unfettered access to forex from Diaspora and other money transfer remittances like Western Union and MoneyGram.

Speaking in separate interviews with THISDAY, they stated that the new policy would enhance liquidity in the forex market.

ABCON President, Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, advised forex speculators hoarding dollars to sell now, saying, “Otherwise they will lick their wounds.”

According to him, with the new policy, the monopoly in the remittance market has been broken.

Gwadabe said: “If you were receiving dollars from the bank at about N390 to a dollar and now you are free to receive your dollar as it was sent, you are free to walk into any BDC operator and get it at the prevailing market rate.

“So, there will be liquidity and also the monopoly has been broken because before recipients of such funds didn’t have an option because they are forced to collect naira from the banks. This is a welcome development and we commend the CBN.”

Also, the Senior Economist/Head of Research and Strategy, Greenwich Merchant Bank Limited, Mr. Ayodeji Ebo, described the new policy as a positive move, saying it will help divert remittances back to the official channels.

According to him, the difference in forex rates has always been a disincentive.
“I think it will also increase dollar liquidity in the banks as people would now be more comfortable to channel these funds through the banks. So, it is a step in the positive direction,” he stated.

Head of Research at Agusto & Co, Mr. Jimi Ogbobine, explained that the policy would help boost dollar liquidity in the economy and ease forex pressure in the parallel market.

“So, before now if you receive your money from an international money transfer operator, they would give you naira pegged at around N390 to a dollar. If you walk out of that bank where you had collected that money, if it was dollar you received, you would have changed that money at a prevailing parallel market rate.

“So, because of the difference, you would find a way to cut off the official channel and start receiving the money through informal channels, instead of through the banks.

And when you receive the money, you go to the parallel market to get the maximum rate.

“What the central bank would achieve with this policy is to reduce the pressure and cut off the arbitrage with more retail investors being able to access their dollars through the right channels. We are going to see a possible increase in supply in the parallel market, which would ultimately moderate forex rates, especially as we go into the yuletide season when we are going to have many Nigerians in the Diaspora coming back home,” Ogbobine explained.

Also, Head of Research at United Capital, Mr. Wale Olusi, said the policy is “going to ease the pressure in the parallel market.

“This is a short-term policy that if sustained will be beneficial to the market in the long run. Remittances in Nigeria yearly are over $20 billion. Remittances can roughly take about 40 per cent of the demand for import.

“Those can actually, to a large extent, save the central bank a lot of headaches if we are able to cement the structure around remittances. So, I think it is a brilliant move,” he said.

The new CBN policy allows beneficiaries of Diaspora remittances through IMTOs to henceforth receive such inflows in the original foreign currency through the designated bank of their choice.

The CBN explained that the new regulations were part of efforts to liberalise, simplify and improve the receipt and administration of Diaspora remittances into Nigeria.

The central bank announced the new policy in a circular titled: “Amendment to Procedures for Receipt of Diaspora Remittances,” dated November 30, 2020, that was signed by its Director, Trade and Exchange Department, Dr. Ozoemena Nnaji.

2023: Between Tinubu, Fayemi And Amaechi Who Would El-Rufai Stand With As Running Mate?

December 02, 2020

2023: Between Tinubu, Fayemi And Amaechi Who Would El-Rufai Stand With As Running Mate?

Everyone has joined the moving train towards the 2023 general elections, whether as a passenger or as drivers or engineers the bottom line is that the train is moving and people are joining.

The intriguing aspect about the 2023 general elections is that Buhari would be bidding constitutional farewell to Aso Rock.

The unifying factor in APC today is Buhari and his exit would open the flood gates of conflicting interest that would shake the foundation of the party.

As the train gradually advances many gladiators would spring up in a battle to outwit themselves. The field would suddenly become wide open with so many unexpected players indicating interest.

You don’t need to teach a snake how to lie down, a politician that knows his onions should very well know when to strike.

To be candid the popularity of Buhari since the return to democratic rule in 1999 has been unprecedented, it kept on soaring higher till he met the right forces to team up with and his dreams became a reality.

In 2023 no politician would drive such clout independently without aligning with a popular choice as running mate.

So aside from being a popular presidential candidate and having a good team to collaborate with, your choice of running mate must be a formidable and popular aspirant as well. It must be a winning pair.

Today there is a northern conspiracy that the North should retain power as against the gentleman agreement with the party concerning zoning.

The cabal behind the plot are not sleeping neither are the perceived beneficiaries of the zoning agreement sleeping too.

Politics is a game of gamble and the ability to read the odds gives an added advantage.

The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has thrown his support for the gentleman agreement entered by the party that power should shift to the South at the expiration of Buhari’s tenure in 2023.

According to him, it is good the agreement is honoured. His argument is hinged on Justice saying there can be no peace without understanding.

The Kaduna State Governor who is eminently qualified as a potential successor to Buhari has tactically thrown his support for power shift.

He is seen as a strong contender for the office of the Vice-President to a Southern candidate.

Who would El-Rufai stand with as running mate between these three known aspirants from the South?

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Rotimi Amaechi and Dr Kayode Fayemi.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Tinubu who seems to be the leading aspirant from the South-West is a sure delight to work with, but the issue of a Muslim-Muslim ticket might be the unmaking of such a fantastic pair.

The probability of El-Rufai standing a chance under a Tinubu presidential ticket is slim and unrealistic. If it was possible Tinubu would have since played the card with Buhari instead of Osinbajo in 2015.

Read Also Help!! No Man Has Ever Approached Me Before Since I Was Born and I Feel Like Ending My Own Life Soon

Anyway, El-Rufai still maintains a healthy relationship with the Jagaban although not perceived to be in the same political camp with Tinubu in APC, the Kaduna State Governor still services the dignified relationship he shares with the former Lagos State Governor.

Dr Kayode Fayemi.

The Ekiti State Governor is ready to take a shot at the presidency if the party keeps to its zoning arrangement. The chairman of the Governor’s forum has oiled his machinery in anticipation of a tough electioneering campaign ahead.

The only snag with Kayode Fayemi’s presidential quest is that the Ekiti State Governor is also interested in the office of the vice-president under a northern candidacy.

His double-edged sword might be a major blunder if not properly handled, pundits argue that he can not be vying for the presidency and vice-presidency at the same time. He should remain focused on one.

Funny enough Kayode Fayemi is a likely vice-presidential aspirant to the same El-Rufai in question if the APC decides to jettison the zoning arrangement.

They belong to the same political camp in APC and a likely combination of Kayode Fayemi for President and Nasir El-Rufai for Vice-President and Vice-Versa is highly probable.

Rotimi Amaechi.

Rotimi Amaechi almost shares the same similarities with Kayode Fayemi, they both belong to the same political camp and have the same aspirations for the presidency and vice.

Similar case scenario with Kayode Fayemi only that Amaechi would not make a public move for the presidency until well assured by the cabal of his acceptance.

The issue of the Vice-Presidential slot is knotty as all the aspirants apart from Asiwaju Tinubu and Atiku Abubarkar of the PDP are both eligible for the presidential ticket and vice-presidential slot as well.

Tinubu and Atiku stand out as the big fish, my people take am make parable say Frog no dey jump go back, NEVER.

Atiku and Tinubu by default can not seek the office of the vice president, they are way too big for the office.

So let us keep our fingers crossed as we move towards the 2023 general elections.

MUST READ!! #Zabarmari Massacre : Why we killed 78 rice farmers in Borno — Shekau

December 01, 2020

The factional leader of the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents, Abubakar Shekau has confirmed that his group was responsible for the killing of rice farmers in Kwashebe Zabarmari axis of Jere Local government Area of Borno State, iReporteronline reports.

Shekau, in a three-minute video released on Tuesday, said his group killed 78 farmers because “the farmers arrested and handed one of its brothers to the Nigerian Army.”

The group also warned that those arresting their members and giving out intelligence on their activities to the military will face the same fate if they did not desist from doing so.

The third message is on those who notoriously nab our brethren and hand them to the military or give them a clue on us, you should know that, unless you repent, what happened to your people is awaiting you.” he said.

Conflicting Figures

There have been conflicting reports over the number of casualties as 43 deaths were earlier reported.

However, the UN humanitarian coordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon later revealed that at least 110 people were killed in the attack while the Nigerian Military insisted that only 43 died from the attack.

The Governor of the State, Babagana Zulum had earlier on Sunday participated in the funeral prayers for 43 (dead) victims of the attack.

Recall report that the victims, who were rice farmers, were attacked on their farms in Koshebe area of Zabarmari village, and murdered in cold blood.

One of the local hunters, who participated in a search and rescue operation, said most of the farmers found dead in the rice field had their throats slit.
“We have recovered 43 corpses. The attackers slaughtered all of them,” he said.

“As we speak, there is great disquiet and mourning in our communities,” the hunter said.

The Chairman Rice Farmers Association in Zabarmari, Malam Hassan, who corroborated the sad incident, expressed dismay over the senseless and vicious killing of innocent farmers, including children.

“It is very sad, for us, that these people went to their farms to work, only to be attacked and killed in this manner. So far, we have recovered 43 corpses, including children.”

Brain Drain : Reps ask Ministry of Labour to review salaries of medical doctors

December 01, 2020

The House of Representatives has urged the Ministry of Labour and Productivity to review the salary, allowance and welfare of Nigerian medical practitioners in a bid to stop the brain drain in Nigeria.

The House also urged the ministry to expand the size of the medical practitioners in the country to create employment for the unemployed ones and develop a functional strategy that will attract diaspora Medical personnel to work at various teaching hospitals.

These resolutions followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Ganiyu Johnson on Tuesday during the Plenary.

Moving the motion, Mr. Johnson said that despite Nigeria being among the highest producers of diaspora doctors in the world, he noted that the nation faces an acute shortage of medical practitioners in the country.

He blamed the brain drain in the medical sector on poor remuneration and other poor working conditions obtained in the sector.

“Nigeria has over Ninety Thousand (90,00) qualified Medical Doctors practising abroad and in fact an average of fifty (50) doctors who had their primary Medical Education in Nigeria are said to be registering for practice every week in the United Kingdom (UK), United States of America (USA), Canada and other oil-rich countries.”

“Some factors responsible for this development in Nigeria are inadequate infrastructure, poor human resources planning and management practices and structures, unsatisfactory working conditions characterized by heavy workloads and other factors such as lack of professional autonomy, poor supervision and support, long working hours, unsafe workplaces, inadequate career structures, poor working conditions and poor compensation packages are the factors contributing to the emigration from the country by surgeons, physicians, nurses and other medical professionals.”

To ensure compliance, the House mandated the Committee on Labour, Employment and Productivity to facilitate the employment of the Nigerian medical practitioners.

It also mandated the Committee on Healthcare Services to call other relevant stakeholders for an interactive session in to proffer lasting solution to Brain Drain of Medical Personnel from Nigeria

Update: Football legend, Diego Maradona fell and hit his head before he died and was then left alone ‘without help’ for 3 days, his nurse claims

December 01, 2020

Football legend, Diego Maradona reportedly suffered a head injury after a fall at his home a week before he died from a heart attack but was never taken to the hospital.

Italian newspaper La Repubblica claim that the Argentine icon who had only recently had surgery on his brain to remove a blood clot, was not taken for a scan after falling and hitting his head at home.

A lawyer representing a nurse who worked for Maradona is reported to have said: ‘Maradona fell to the ground seven days before his death. He fell and hit his head but they didn’t take him to the hospital for an MRI or a CT scan.’

The shocking revelation comes as Maradona’s personal doctor Leopoldo Luque is being probed over medical negligence as police launch an investigation into his death.

The report also confirmed speculation that Maradona was alone in his house in Buenos Aires when he died from a heart attack aged 60.

An autopsy report said he died in his sleep after suffering heart failure. Medics also detected dilated cardiomyopathy, a medical condition in which the heart muscle becomes weakened and enlarged and cannot pump enough blood to the rest of the body.

The same nurse’s lawyer also said that she had spoken with Maradona on the Friday before his death but was fired on Saturday.

According to her lawyer, she remained at the request of Maradona’s entourage to administer his medication but was no longer taking his blood pressure or controlling him.

On Sunday, police raided the home of Maradona’s physician Luque and investigators are looking into all the medical staff involved with his care after his daughters Dalma and Giannina gave statements questioning whether the medication their father was receiving was appropriate.

Repubblica are also reporting that documents have emerged showing that Dr. Cosachov had requested 24-hour specialist and nursing assistance for the former Argentina star before his death but Luque didn’t not arranged for that to happen.

On Monday Luque addressed these claims and told reporters that Maradona was ‘unmanageable’ and should have been sent to rehab.

He said: ‘I was shocked when police turned up at my door. I’m going to co-operate fully.

‘I know what I did and what I did was for Diego’s benefit until the last moment. I did the best I could.

‘I feel terrible because a friend died. I don’t blame myself for anything. It’s very unfair what’s happening.

‘I didn’t see Diego’s daughters a lot but the rest of his family, his siblings and his nephews adore me.

‘Someone is trying to find a scapegoat here when I don’t see one anywhere.

‘We all did the best we could with Diego.

Rihanna reportedly dating her longtime friend A$AP Rocky after months of romance rumors

December 01, 2020

Rihanna is dating her longtime friend, rapper A$AP Rocky after months of romance rumors, according to PEOPLE.

The news comes after the pair, both 32, were spotted having dinner with friends at the Beatrice Inn in New York over the weekend.

A source told The Sun : “They shared a hotel suite during that trip in New York. However, Rihanna is reluctant to put a label on it as it’s so soon after Hassan.

“They’re really enjoying each other’s company and taking things easy as it’s still early days.”

The couple has sparked romance rumors since Rihanna split from her boyfriend of three years, billionaire Hassan Jameel, in January. Then, The Sun reported that Rihanna and A$AP Rocky had been seeing each other, but a source told E! that she was still single.

In July, Rihanna featured the “Everyday” rapper in her Fenty Skin campaign. The duo did several interviews together to promote the collaboration.

In videos for GQ and Vogue featuring the two, Rihanna and A$AP answered several questions including how they take care of their skin.

“My skin type is just as complicated as men are,” Rihanna jokingly said when A$AP Rocky asked about her skin type for Vogue. “Y’all always try to say women are complicated [but] it’s y’all!”

When Rihanna asked the rapper what his own skin is like, he answered: “Handsome.”

In the GQ video, the rapper also revealed the “hardest part” about working with Rihanna.

“I think the hardest part about working with you is not goofin’ off and laughing the whole time. Like this s— is comedy,” he said. “That’s the hardest part. You know, people be so cool it’s hard not to, not to laugh. That’s all. But it was fun. The hardest part is not having too much fun. You just forget that it’s still work at the end of the day.”

A$AP Rocky and Rihanna who have been friends for a while now, were also seen attending a Louis Vuitton fashion show in Paris back in 2018.

The rapper has previously dated celebrities such as Kendall Jenner in 2017 and Brazilian model Daiane Sodré last year.
