Edo 2020: Inter-Religious Women In Politics Debunk Vote Buying Says Ize-Iyamu’s Popularity Needs No Vote Buying

The chairperson Inter-Religious women in politics have debunked the false narrative of buying votes ahead of the Edo September 19th 2020 election.

The convener, Dr Philomena Eriyo has issued a press statement debunking the malicious and misleading story of buying votes.
According to her, the story was misconstrued for cheap political gains.’

She concluded by saying that the popularity of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu needs no vote-buying.

“The attention has been drawn to the Inter-Religious Women in Politics about a misleading story that the IWP is currently buying votes ahead of Saturday’s governorship polls.

The deceptive story made reference to our women who were seen collecting wrappers in our weekly meetings ahead of the event in which we officially endorsed Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the next Executive Governor of Edo State.

Ordinarily, we would have ignored the embarrassing report but for the nature of its sensitivity and a direct attempt to tarnish my image, it has become imperative I state the facts of the event as wrongly misconstrued by the enemies of democracy to score cheap political points.

Precisely on the 10th of September, we held our weekly meeting in which members were told to show their PVC to ensure their eligibility to vote.

The IWP is an organization that is primarily focused on empowering women both economically and politically.

And we have resolved to throw our support for the APC candidate having carefully studied all the political parties and come to the conclusion that Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC is the best choice for our women.

The meeting held on the 10th which the pictures were captured and circulated on the INTERNET was in preparation for our event coming up which we intended to endorse POI.

We distributed wrappers to our women which were to be worn on the very day of our event.

At our weekly meetings, we receive no fewer than 100 women and we also listen to the challenges these women face because of the harsh and hostile economic environment we presently find ourselves in Edo State.

During these weekly meetings, we also make some palliatives available for some of these our women who are passing through various difficulties to earn a living.

Misconstruing these acts of kindness as vote-buying is the most reprehensible and nauseating act anyone can think of.

As a reputable woman who grew up and schooled in the United Kingdom, I am a principled woman and I have no reason to buy votes especially for Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu whose popularity needs no vote-buying.

I hereby use this medium to call on the general public to disregard the false report as it has no iota of truth in it.

Lastly, I enjoin the good people of Edo State to come out en mass on Saturday and cast their vote for Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and the APC.

Sign.
Dr Philomena Eriyo.
Convener Inter-Religious Women In Politics.
