Game Of Thrones: Between Jonathan, Tinubu and Osinbajo Who Gets The APC’s Ticket For 2023 Presidency?

There is a mysterious aura surrounding the 2023 Presidency, the emotions the politicking and the conspiracy are more than meets the eye.

Why the heavy politicking in APC when the Buhari’s administration still has some few more years to go?

Why the bitter rivalry between major stakeholders?

The questions are endless but the truth remains… the battle for the 2023 presidency has begun in earnest.

So many aspirants are warming up to take over the baton of leadership from Baba.

Today we would be looking at the major front runners ahead of the 2023 presidential elections under the APC platform.

From close observations, it seems there are three leading aspirants for the throne.

His Excellency Former President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

While the likes of Rotimi Amaechi, Kayode Fayemi, Nasir El Rufai, David Umahi, Orji Uzor Kalu and Rochas Okorocha are warming up on the reserve list, practically waiting for an opportunity to swing their way.

So what chances do these three major aspirants have?

THE CANDIDATES.

President Goodluck Jonathan.

Funny, absurd and intriguing you may say, but the ex-president has a strong chance of becoming the next president of Nigeria.

Jonathan becoming the president is not a strange sequence at all, his predecessors aside President Yardua were once Head of States before coming back at a later time to rule Nigeria.

Obasanjo served as military head of state from 1976 to 1979 and later as President of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007.

Obasanjo served a total of 11 years as Nigerian president.

President Buhari served as military head of state from 1983 to 1985, after taking power in a military coup d’état.

Buhari’s current tenure would end in 2023, bringing his total years spent as Nigerian’s president to 10 years.

Goodluck Jonathan served as the President of Nigeria from 2010 to 2015.

His return would make it 9 years spent as president. So from antecedent Jonathan perfectly fits the LOCK.

His Chances.

The APC cabal wants him to succeed Buhari if the Northern agenda does not play out, the calculation is simple and straight forward, Jonathan like Obasanjo is one they can trust because he handed over power to them peacefully like the way Obasanjo handed over power to Alhaji Shehu Shagari.

Goodluck would spend only four years in office then handover to a Northern candidate.

Take note the presidency is rotated between the North and South. And they have the confidence that GEJ would equally keep to the agreement.

Jonathan’s birthday was an APC affair as the Caretaker Chairman of APC, Yobe State Governor  Mai Buni led some APC governors in paying HOMAGE to GEJ.

The Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar Badaru his Kebbi State counterpart, Atiku Bagudu who were part of the delegation are known anti-Tinubu forces in APC.

Another strong selling point for Goodluck Jonathan is the agitation by a portion of the populace for his return.

He is seen as liberal, experienced and committed to PROJECT ONE NIGERIA.

But President Jonathan is above all a brand –this is expected to propel him to victory in 2023.

Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

The Vice-President ordinarily should be offered the choice of first refusal, but politics is not like that anymore. In short, the odds in sequence does not favour him as deputies are not known to have succeeded their Bosses both in the G0vernship elections and the Presidency.

Nigeria has only a handful of cases of Governors handing over to their deputies, the presidency, however, has no such precedence. The only case of succession in the presidency is as a result of death.

Osinbajo has a lot of sympathy from Nigerians who see him as cool, calm and calculated they also see him as well educated enough to handle the affairs of the Nation.

He does not strike as one of the old order.

Not much baggage attached to him, he looks acceptable to everyone …but the cabal (they insist that power must be retained in the North).

Osinbajo’s case presently seems attached to the body language of President Buhari.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed.

The Jagaban of politics, smart and politically savvy, Tinubu seems to be at the forefront of aspirants with self ambition.

Unlike GEJ and Osinbajo, Tinubu seems to have groomed himself to take over the mantle of leadership from Buhari.

Seen as a builder of men, Tinubu today stands tall as one who has made more Nigerians politically among the pack of contenders seeking political office of any kind.

His lieutenants are everywhere and in all sectors, like Don Corleone, Tinubu has made offers which can’t be refused and probably its payback time.

His Chances.

Tinubu would fight a tough battle with the cabal which interest is primarily retaining power in the North. If their kite does not fly then they might settle for Goodluck Jonathan as the standard flag-bearer for APC to whittle down the chances of Tinubu.

Tinubu has a strong character and he’s also a ruthless fighter if he forges ahead he would be a hard nut to crack in the APC, Tinubu is perceived to have a complete army that can deliver a presidential candidate.

From the media to the capable hands coupled with the clout and resources, Tinubu presently seems ahead of the contenders in the race to pick up the APC ticket.

The only snag here is that Tinubu would not throw is hat in the ring if he thinks he has the slightest chance of losing the presidential ticket of APC.

Tinubu’s not do or die approach to politics still makes his candidacy hazy.

But like the King Makers, Tinubu would still feature as the fulcrum of the 2023 election either as an aspirant or as the Don.

So with the A LIST of presidential aspirants mentioned above which informs your first choice for presidency come 2023?

In our next publication, we shall take you through a guide of the Battle Ground States and the Issues involved in selecting the choice candidate for the 2023 Presidency.
